I guess there is a lot worse things that the guy could have said. Such as "Your mama wears combat boots" or "Go fly a kite"...

Ah, it smacks of the playground and lacks the careful nuance of, for example, Canada-US relations:
1971 – When it was revealed that President Richard Nixon called Prime Minister Pierre Trudeau "an asshole" in his private tapes, Trudeau responded with, "I've been called worse things by better people."
I have used that same phrase in my personal dealings with people I have deemed douchebags that call me names. Such an air of superiority from that phrase...
